Acer palmatum 'Emerald Lace' leaves emerge in the spring a bright lime green. As the leaves mature the turn a dark green. New growth during this time is still the bright lime green but now includes a cherry red outside edge. As summer turns to fall expect Acer palmatum 'Emerald Lace' to turn a brilliant fire engine red that is just outstanding. What gives Acer palmatum 'Emerald Lace' a different appeal is its extremely fine dissected leaves, that makes it stand out among other weeping lace leaf types. 'Emerald Lace' has a overall habit that is mounding and spreading, often giving this tree a unique shape that will get wider than it is tall. You expect 'Emerald Lace' to reach 3-4 ft High by 6-8 ft wide in 15 years. 'Emerald Lace' has outstanding heat tolerant and cold tolerant. Add in the fact that it is a fabulous grower, it is a Japanese maple that is hard to pass up! 'Emerald Lace' was found by David Sabo around Charlotte, NC and introduced by the late Del Loucks.
