Acer palmatum 'Azuma Murasaki' leaves emerge in the early spring as electric cherry red on a deeply divided leaf. As the summer proceeds and the leaf matures, it turns to a violet with the cherry red new growth. 'Azuma murasaki' will fade to a green by mid-summer with orange to red undertones.  In the fall, it will turn to a electric cherry red once again. 'Azuma murasaki' has an upright growth habit, the exterior branching tend to be more  pendulous which gives 'Azuma murasaki' a unique shape. In 10 years, it should reach around 10 ft in height. This an old Japanese maple selection that was first recorded in the Sekihin Binran in 1882. While it is an oldy its defiantly worth having in your garden.
