Acer palmatum 'Orion' leaves emerge in the spring as small deeply divided foliage that is bright cherry red in color. As the leaves mature they become maroon, copper, olive green and increase in size. Through-out the summer months the new growth emerges  red, making 'Orion' seem as though there is an explosion of color like a miniature fireworks display at the tip of the stems. In the fall leaves of 'Orion' Japanese maple turn a soft orange. Expect Acer palmatum 'Orion' to reach 5ft high by 4ft wide in 10 years.
