Acer shirasawanum 'Purple Umbrella' is a large leaf selection who's leaves emerge in the spring a dark purple maroon. As the leaves of 'Purple Umbrella' mature an emerald cast appears on the leaf. Fall color of 'Purple Umbrella' is a bright red to dark maroon. You should expect ‘Purple Umbrella’ to reach 8-10 ft high in 10 years. The new growth on Japanese maple resembles an umbrella which is where the name comes from.
