Illicium floridanum 'Southern Star'

Illicium floridanum 'Southern Star'  (Florida anise, purple anise) has clusters of red flowers in the spring and often reblooms throughout the summer with green leaves with irregular  creamy white margins.  Illicium floridanum 'Southern Star' is beautiful with its variegated green leaves with creamy white margins  and alien-like "starfish" shaped red flowers.  Illicium floridanum 'Southern Star' will lighten a dark corner of your garden and is equally great as a backdrop for other plants (we love Japanese painted ferns with it) or in the foreground where the stunning leaves and flowers can be enjoyed close up.  The evergreen foliage of Illicium floridanum 'Southern Star' has a delightful licorice fragrance when crushed or brushed against and is very deer resistant.  This plant is not edible and should not be confused with culinary star anise!
