Leucothoe axillaris 'Dodd's Variegated'
Leucothoe axillaris 'Dodd's Variegated'
Leucothoe axillaris 'Dodd's Variegated' (coastal doghobble, coastal leucothoe, doghobble, fetterbush) is a broadleaf evergreen with fantastic variegated leaves and masses of small, pendulous white flowers. Leucothoe axillaris 'Dodd's Variegated' is the best selection of variegated leucothoe we've ever grown. It is not as variegated as 'Girard's Rainbow' but is MUCH more disease resistant. In general, leucothoe are not easy to grow in our hot and humid climate, but Leucothoe axillaris 'Dodd's Variegated' seems happy growing here. It was made from a very deep south population and is much better here in North Carolina than other cultivars. Leucothoe axillaris 'Dodd's Variegated' is great in mass plantings, mixed with other evergreen shrubs, or as a specimen.
