Nandina domestica 'Otafuku' RARE
Nandina domestica 'Otafuku' RARE
Nandina domestica 'Otafuku' (Chinese Sacred Bamboo, Heavenly Bamboo) is a beautiful, small, variegated evergreen shrub that can turn bright red in the winter. Nandina domestica 'Otafuku' has the growth habit of Nandina domestica 'Wood's Dwarf' but differs in having leaves heavily splashed with white and often shades of pink in the new growth. The degree and intensity of the variegation on Nandina domestica 'Otafuku' does appear to be somewhat linked to amount of shade or fertility. Best variegation appears to be in partial shade with decent fertility. If stressed due to lack of water or fertilizer, the variegation is less apparent. Nandina domestica 'Otafuku' will be brilliant scarlet/red in the winter if grown in a sunny location and will be more of a bronzy red in the winter if grown in shade. Nandina domestica 'Otafuku' is fantastic in mass plantings but can be used as a specimen. We also have large, 3 gallon plants of Nandina domestica 'Otafuku' at our retail nursery but we can not ship 3 gallon plants, so these larger plants are available for pick up only at the nursery.
