Taxodium distichum 'Cody's Feathers' is a dwarf to semi dwarf bald cypress found at the post office in Wooster, Ohio as a witch's broom on a large tree in the parking lot.  Taxodium distichum 'Cody's Feather's was originally know as 'Wooster Broom' and was found by Bill Barger - one day his young son, Cody, saw the plant and thought it looked like feathers - hence the name.  Taxodium distichum 'Cody's Feathers' has a very unusual ability - you can completely control how large it will grow, and no, not by pruning it!  'Cody's Feathers' produces huge quantities of cones, and if allowed to cone, it will produce cones and very little new growth - so you can allow cones to stay on plant and it will be very slow to 3' tall, OR you can remove all the cones (when cones are young) and 'Cody's Feathers' will grow about 12" per year!  Let 'Cody's Feathers grow to height you want (removing cones every year) then simply allow it to cone.  It will basically stop at that height!  I've seen de coned plants over 15' tall and coned plants the same age at less than 3' tall.  Very interesting!!!  As with all bald cypress, 'Cody's Feathers can be grown in average to very wet soil.
