Taxodium distichum 'Peve Minaret'
Taxodium distichum 'Peve Minaret'
Taxodium distichum 'Peve Minaret' is a compact, upright growing bald cypress from the Netherlands. Taxodium distichum 'Peve Minaret' is a moderately fast growing semi dwarf bald cypress that is great planted in groupings along side (into water OK) ponds or lakes. I was fortunate about 25 years ago to get the opportunity to see the original plant of 'Peve Minaret' at Piet Vergeldt's nursery in the Netherlands and was able to be the first large scale producer of this plant in the USA. We didn't bring it in first, but did the first 20,000 or so. 'Peve Minaret' can be grown in a very unusual way - if you prune off all the branches every year or 2, cut the top out at a height you want (or just let it keep growing), it will produce an absolutely vertical tower of equal width top to bottom - think Italian cypress. It does require some extra effort, but I've seen this done on plants spaced only 3' apart and pruned into a green wall less than 3' wide! We aren't currenly growing large numbers, but if you are interested in doing a large fence job and need a lot produced, give us at least a year's advance notice and we produce them for you. As with all bald cypress, 'Peve Minaret' can be grown in average to very wet soil.
